RICHWOOD — A 10-week-old baby hospitalized for two days because of injuries possibly caused by abuse died of her injuries overnight, Richwood Police Chief Glenn Patton said Saturday.

Patton said the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office notified him shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday that KIoey Alaine Traynor had died. She was being treated at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston for severe injuries, including bruising and fractures.

“It’s just a sad thing. … It’s difficult even for experienced and hardened folks in this field,” Patton said. “I talked to the baby’s grandmother this morning and apparently they did organ donations.”

The grandmother could not be reached Saturday.

Kloey was taken to the Houston hospital by helicopter early Thursday morning after being taken for initial treatment to Brazosport Regional Health System in Lake Jackson late Wednesday night.

The baby’s 26-year-old mother had left the baby with her 20-year-old father at their apartment in the 200 block of Timbercreek Drive while she went to do laundry, Patton said. When she came home three hours later, she noticed bruises on Kloey’s neck and chest and that the girl was having trouble opening her mouth.

The Richwood Police Department continues to investigate the case and would like to speak to anyone who had contact with the baby Wednesday. Anyone with information is asked to call (979) 265-2222.

“Just because the child has died does not change our direction of investigation,” he said. “We’re still investigating to determine the truth.”

The baby’s parents are expected to take polygraph exams next week, he said.

“Everybody’s fully cooperating with the investigation and we’re proceeding on,” Patton said. “The main thing we want to find out is the who, what, when, where, hows and whys.”

Once the investigation is complete, District Attorney Jeri Yenne said her office “will review it for any and all appropriate charges.”

Child Protective Services will continue working with law enforcement on the case, said Gwen Carter, a spokeswoman for the agency’s Houston regional office.

“We just want to make sure we know what happened,” she said.

Carter emphasized that anyone who suspects possible abuse of a child should contact the agency or police.

“We never had an opportunity (to intervene), but you have to wonder if there’s other people who saw things,” she said. “If you have a concern, the most important thing to do is to call. A child’s life is too important to risk.”

RICHWOOD — A 20-year-old father was arrested Monday on felony charges of injury to a child resulting in death after his 10-week-old baby died in a Houston hospital Saturday, Richwood Police Chief Glenn Patton said.

Dustin Micheal Traynor was being held at the Clute city jail Monday evening in lieu of a $250,000 bond.

Traynor told police Thursday, after his daughter was taken to a local hospital, that he threw his daughter, Kloey Alaine Traynor, on a bed because Kloey would not stop crying, Patton said. When Kloey continued to cry, Traynor shook Kloey violently, Patton said.

Police waited to charge Traynor until Traynor’s statement could be verified, Patton said.

“We wanted to make sure everything was true because we didn’t know if he was covering for someone,” Patton said. “We met with the district attorney on Friday and sought advice from them. At that time, a warrant was authorized.”

Traynor was arrested at 4:15 p.m. Monday after taking a polygraph exam at the Richwood Police Department, 215 Halbert St., Patton said.

Kloey was taken to the Houston hospital by helicopter early Thursday morning after receiving initial treatment at Brazosport Regional Health System in Lake Jackson late Wednesday night.

The baby’s 26-year-old mother had left the baby with her husband, Traynor, at their apartment in the 200 block of Timbercreek Drive while she went to do laundry, Patton said. When she came home three hours later, she noticed bruises on Kloey’s neck and chest and that the girl was having trouble opening her mouth.

Patton said the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office notified him shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday that Kloey had died. She was being treated at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston for severe injuries, including bruising and fractures.

“It’s just a tragic state of events,” Patton said. “It saddened us to have to investigate something like this.”

Doctors at both the Lake Jackson and Houston hospitals told police they believe Kloey had suffered other injuries prior to Wednesday, Patton said. The girl had rib fractures that appeared to be healing, he said.

“The case is not closed by a long shot,” Patton said. “We will try to determine if anyone else was involved.”

Patton hopes the medical examiner can determine when each of Kloey’s injuries occurred.

Once the investigation is complete, District Attorney Jeri Yenne has said her office “will review it for any and all appropriate charges.”
